CANNING STREET HOUSE, CARLTON NORTH


Two adjoining Victorian terraces in Carlton were joined to create a single family home centred on the kitchen. The heritage façades and front rooms were retained, while the plan opens to light, garden and city views. Above, a rotated upper level shades the courtyard below. Reused brickwork, bluestone floors and spotted gum cladding ground the house in its context — materials that age and weather naturally over time.
